The Beginning of Awareness

Softness

The moment you begin noticing your inner world
with compassion instead of criticism,
something within you begins to soften.

Perhaps we often or after becoming numb for too long…
move through life without fully realizing what is happening within us.

And sometimes, we continue speaking to ourselves in critical ways

calling ourselves lazy, too sensitive, or believing “something is wrong with me.”

But sometimes, we are not lazy at all.

Sometimes we are simply exhausted.
Sometimes we have been holding too much for too long.
Sometimes we have slowly drifted away from ourselves.

And after certain emotional storms, we may not even have the energy left
to rebuild the parts of ourselves that quietly collapsed.

Life continuously brings each of us different kinds of challenges some small, some unbearably heavy.

But little by little, when we begin noticing what we are feeling, and gently asking ourselves why those emotions appeared,

we slowly learn how to become closer to ourselves again.

Through many seasons of my life, I’ve been learning that self-awareness
is not about criticizing or analyzing ourselves endlessly.

It is the quiet practice of noticing what is happening within us.

Our emotions.

Our thoughts.

The reactions held inside the body.

Repeating patterns.

And the feelings we have buried for far too long.

Maybe healing does not begin with fixing ourselves.

Maybe it begins with finally learning how to see ourselves with honesty, gentleness, and care.

And perhaps, the moment we decide to begin again, we are already partway toward healing.
