Coming Back to Yourself, Slowly

Sometimes, simply becoming aware of our emotions

or even finding the courage to face them can feel overwhelming on its own.

When we begin to realize how exhausted we have been,
how long we have lived in tension, and how far we may have drifted away from ourselves,
it can feel difficult to know where to begin again.

And often, even in those moments, we still try to fix ourselves.

We rush to feel better quickly.
We keep analyzing the reasons behind everything.
We try to avoid what we are feeling, or force our emotions back down.

But sometimes,
long before the mind fully understands it, the body has already been carrying too much tension for too long.

Self grounding is the practice of gently bringing ourselves back to the present moment again.

Not by forcing ourselves to be okay, but by slowly reminding the body and mind that it may be safe enough to soften, even just a little.

▪️Feeling sunlight on your skin for a moment.
▪️Washing your hands slowly while noticing the feeling of the warm water and soap.
▪️Taking a quiet sip of tea.
▪️Walking barefoot on grass or soil
▪️and noticing the feeling beneath your feet.
▪️Breathing slowly.
▪️Pausing for just a moment.

Perhaps grounding is not something grand or complicated.

Maybe it begins within these small and ordinary moments.

And through those moments, we slowly practice reconnecting with the body,
with the present moment, and with ourselves again.

Even five minutes is enough.

Even a brief moment is enough.

What matters most may not be doing it perfectly, but simply having the willingness
to return to yourself again, gently and slowly.

Perhaps healing does not begin by changing everything all at once.

And perhaps it is not about returning to who we once were.

Maybe it begins by slowly learning how to return to ourselves as we are now.
