Reflections No.002 — Softer Morning

morning walk

For a long time, I believed I needed a space of my own.

A quiet room.

A corner where no one would interrupt me.

A place where I could finally close the door and simply be.

I thought that if I could just find that space, I would feel more like myself.

But looking back now,

I realize that what I was truly searching for was never a place.

It was time.

Time to slow down.

Time to breathe.

Time to think.

Time to simply exist without needing to become anything for anyone else.

For many years, I found that time at night.

When the day was finally over,

when everyone else's needs had been met,

I would quietly return to myself.

I wrote in my journal.

Exercised.

Took care of my skin.

Read a few pages of a book.

Those small rituals felt like a quiet reward after another full day.

I always wished for just a little more time before tomorrow arrived.

But life rarely worked that way.

Sometimes I fell asleep beside my children.

Sometimes I stayed up far too late, trying to protect those precious hours that belonged only to me.

Then morning came,

and everything began again.

Looking back,

I was always doing something.

There was always another responsibility.

Another task.

Another problem waiting to be solved.

And somewhere in the middle of that ordinary life,

a quiet thought appeared.

I feel like I'm missing.

I was living.

I was caring for others.

I was doing everything I was supposed to do.

But somehow,

I couldn't find myself anywhere inside that life.

I had become the roles I carried.

The mother.

The caregiver.

The problem solver.

The responsible one.

And little by little,

the quieter parts of me faded into the background.

The part of me that loved learning.

The part that loved writing.

The part that enjoyed wondering about life.

The part that simply liked being curious.

For a while,

I thought what I needed was a different environment.

So I created beautiful corners.

Books.

Candles.

Soft lighting.

Small objects that brought me comfort.

And they did help.

But only for a while.

Because eventually I realized

it wasn't a different space I had been longing for.

It was uninterrupted time.

Time when no one needed me.

Time before the world began asking for my attention.

Somehow,

I found that time in the early morning.

These days,

I naturally wake before sunrise.

Not because I have to.

Because I genuinely look forward to it.

I slowly make coffee.

Warm a little soy milk.

Light a candle or burn a stick of incense.

Open my journal.

Sometimes I write about yesterday.

Sometimes about how I feel.

Sometimes I simply empty my thoughts onto the page.

Every time I do,

something inside me becomes a little lighter.

The thoughts that felt tangled begin to settle.

The emotions that felt overwhelming become a little easier to understand.

And then comes my favorite part.

My morning walk.

The world is still quiet.

The day has not yet begun asking anything of me.

As I walk,

I notice the cool air,

the changing sky,

the rhythm of my steps.

Sometimes I listen to music.

Sometimes I simply listen to the silence.

What began as a habit for my physical health

slowly became something much deeper.

It became the place where I meet myself each day.

A quiet space,

not made of walls,

but of time.

A moment where my body and mind gently find each other again before the rest of the world arrives.

I used to think I needed more space.

Now I think

what I truly needed

was a deeper relationship with myself.

Perhaps softer mornings are not really about creating the perfect morning routine.

Perhaps they are simply about giving ourselves a quiet place to return—

before the noise,

before the responsibilities,

before the world asks us to become someone for everyone else.

One gentle morning at a time.
