Chapter. 7

Healing is not about never falling again. It is about learning how to return to yourself with greater kindness every time you do.

Coming Home, Again and Again

Healing is a lifelong practice of returning to yourself.

We often imagine healing as a destination. We tell ourselves that one day we will finally feel better.

That sadness will disappear. That anxiety will no longer visit us. That once we have healed, we will never hurt

in the same way again. I used to believe that too. I thought healing meant feeling better or escaping painful

experiences. But life has taught me something much gentler.

Today, I understand healing differently.

Healing is not becoming someone who never falls. It is learning how to care for yourself each time you do.

It is like caring for a scraped knee. You clean the wound. You apply ointment. You cover it with a bandage.

Then you patiently allow time to do what only time can do.

The wound slowly closes. A scar may remain. But it no longer hurts the way it once did.

Healing is not about erasing our scars. It is about learning to live with them gently.

There was a time when I stayed on the ground for far too long after falling. I waited for someone else to help

me back up. Sometimes I pretended I was fine when I wasn't.

Sometimes I hid my pain because I believed strength meant never showing weakness.

Today, I see strength differently. I allow myself to ask for help. I cry when I need to cry.

I let the people I trust see the parts of me that are still healing. I have learned that vulnerability is not

weakness. Sometimes it is one of the strongest forms of courage.

I used to believe that once I healed, I would never experience the same emotions again.

Now I know better. Similar situations will come. Similar feelings will return. That is not failure.

It is simply part of being human. The difference is that those feelings no longer carry me away.

Now I recognize them. I know their names. I have even tied a small ribbon around the label of each one.

They are no longer enemies. They have become part of my story.

There are still days when I feel anxious. Days when sadness quietly visits. Days when my thoughts become

louder than I would like. But I no longer rush to make those feelings disappear.

I begin by allowing myself to feel them. Then I gently ask, "What am I feeling?"

"Why has this feeling come today?" I write. I walk. I listen to music. I breathe inhale and exhale.

I slowly remind my body, "You are safe." Then I separate my feelings from my thoughts.

Reality from interpretation. Facts from imagination. That small practice gently brings me back to the present.

Many people believe healing means no longer hurting.

I don't think it does. Healing means learning how to care for yourself whenever pain returns.

It means understanding your wounds instead of hiding them.

It means becoming a little kinder to yourself every time life asks you to begin again.

If I could say one thing to my younger self, I would simply say, "You were so scared, You were so lonely."

"But you don't have to do this alone anymore. I have become your safest friend."

Perhaps those words are not only for my younger self. Perhaps they are also for anyone reading these pages

who has been carrying more than they can hold.

Creating Still & Soft has changed me in ways I never expected.

My knowledge has deepened. My emotions have become more nuanced. My life has grown a little warmer.

I see people differently. I see myself differently. Every day I learn a little more. Every day I stumble a little.

Every day I find my way back again. Perhaps that is what growth truly looks like.

We will all lose our way again. We will all feel sadness again. We will all experience fear again.

That is part of being alive. But now we know something we may not have known before.

We know how to find our way back. And perhaps... that is enough.

Because healing is not about becoming perfect. It is about never forgetting the way home.

Healing is not a destination. Healing is a lifelong practice of returning to yourself.
